M. Greg Smith Wins "Emerging Company CEO" Award

Accudata CEO M. Gregory Smith Wins Tech Titans’ Emerging Company CEO Award

DALLAS – Sept. 30, 2008 – The Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC), the largest technology trade organization in Texas, has awarded Accudata Technologies President and CEO M. Gregory Smith with its Tech Titans’ Emerging Company CEO Award. The award was presented Friday at the Tech Titans award gala at the Marriott Dallas/Plano at Legacy Town Center. The celebration recognized outstanding companies and individuals in the North Texas area who have made contributions to the technology industry during the past year.

Under Smith’s tenure in 2008, Accudata successfully landed a U.S. Patent for “System and Method for Processing Database Queries.” The patent gave Accudata the right to call itself America’s most accurate telephone number-validation service provider. In addition, Smith serves as president to recently launched Privus Mobile – a subsidiary of Accudata that offers real Caller ID service for cell phones.

“Since Greg joined Accudata Technologies as CEO in 2002, he’s done an amazing job of guiding Accudata along a path of success,” said Monica Martino, Accudata’s chief technology officer. “His hard work and dedication to this company have helped forge a strong foundation in customer relations and rapid expansion into new markets. In addition, Greg has played an integral role in launching Privus Mobile and its mobile Caller ID technology. He’s a tremendous leader, and we’re fortunate to have him.”

Accudata has been named to the annual Tech Titans/Fast 50 list for the past five-consecutive years, an honor that recognizes the telephone number-validation provider as one of the 50 fastest-growing technology companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, based on percentage revenue growth over five years. Since 2001, Accudata has experienced an average annual growth in revenues of approximately 47.6 percent. Its strongest year during the five-year period was in 2003, when Accudata increased its annual sales by 98.1 percent.

The CEO award and nomination was a first for both Smith and Accudata. Smith was selected over fellow finalists RipCode President and CEO Brendon Mills, Pinnacle Technical Resources Founder and CEO Nina Vaca and Tango Networks President and CEO Alastair Westgarth.

“I shared a finalist grouping with some of North Texas’ greatest leaders, and for me to receive the Emerging Company CEO honor, I’m both thrilled and humbled,” Smith said. “It’s easy to call someone a great leader when he/she has such amazing people working behind the scenes. Accudata has taken great strides in becoming the best, most reliable source in the telephone number-validation industry, and all of our employees have made a strong contribution to those efforts. Everyone at Accudata will share in this award.”

In addition to his 28 years in the telecommunications industry, Smith served as an officer in the U.S. Army Airborne Rangers, was a professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point and was a world champion wrestler in U.S. Military Wrestling. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from West Point, a Master of Business Administration from Long Island University and a Master of Science degree from Indiana University.

Myth-busting and the Yahoo!-Google agreement

"There’s been a lot of speculation swirling around about the Yahoo!-Google agreement. We hear everything from the claim that Yahoo! and Google will be fixing prices to the prediction that the agreement is a death sentence for Yahoo!’s sponsored search business. Since the critics clearly don’t understand the deal and what it means for Yahoo!, Google, advertisers, and users, it’s time for some myth-busting."

BailOut Solutions From My Mom

- my mom blurted out this email... and I am my mother's son.. it pretty much says how i feel about it.. good rant mom..

Maybe I have too much time on my hands, but this is the longest political season ever. I am so tired of all this mess. My country is bleeding and it seems everyone is playing “mine is bigger than yours”, For heavens sake, I raised 2 kids, carried 3 jobs to feed them, made trillions of mistakes, never took one cent of government for help such as unemployment or survivor supplement, do now collect my social security, pay for my health, home and auto insurance, can’t afford life insurance, owe approximately 1500.00 in credit cards debt that is being paid promptly every monthly, was fortunate enough to have a trust fund that pays me a monthly amount to supplement my SS of 750,.00 a month and I have to look for jobs to add to a non-exhisting savings for a rainy day, But if my country said to me,” I need something from you I would say,” how can I help,…..I would have shared my children with you and because you have given me an atmosphere where I could survive and grow ,…. I will help………

The solution to the problem is: To send the bill thru as fast as possible (with regulations that safe guard the American people) no pushing thru other bills at the same time, prosecute the heads of Freddie Mac and FNMA and all private parties responsible for this mess, making them pay back all funds realized, to the American people, putting those funds in an interest barring account that pays off our National debt and giving the American people tax breaks for their help. Last make Freddie Mac and GNAM private companies with tons of regulations .,,,,,,,,, Politicians…….are a bunch of impotent, ineffective, publicity seekers, that need to be hosed down, scrubbed, sent to their rooms until they can come out and play by the rules,,,,,,,.So there!!! Internet Marketing Study Group » Internet Marketing and Old School Media Agencies

"Last week we did a quick local SEO 101 presentation/training session where a highly-regarded PR firm attended. We were happy to see them, and had an engaging conversation on the impact of SEO and social media in the PR landscape.
But this in itself presents a challenge for anyone who works for a search marketing firm. With the growing comfort level for search marketing and social media at agencies and internal marketing departments, how does an SEO firm work with a client who already uses an advertising agency or PR firm that offer the same services? Do you “consult” on the projects that are already “optimized” by other agencies? Do you start offering these other services, expanding solely from search (such as social media efforts)? If so, how do you introduce social media as part of a search strategy? Do you provide the content development and syndication service as part of social media plans?"

So it is no surprise that the US justice department appears to be looking at whether Google has grown too big and successful. Before delving into the actual use of date range searching, there are a few things you should know. First, a date range search has nothing to do with the creation date of the content and everything to do with the indexing date of the content. If I create a page on March 8, 1999, for instance, and Google doesn't get around to indexing it until May 22, 2002, for the purposes of a date range search, the date in question is May 22, 2002."

1234 Attack - UPNP (universal plug and play) router attack. (12.2001)

eEye has discovered three vulnerabilities within Microsoft's UPnP implementation: a remotely exploitable buffer overflow that allows an attacker gain SYSTEM level access to any default installation of Windows XP, a Denial of Service (DoS) attack, and a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. eEye would like to stress the extreme seriousness of this vulnerability. Network administrators are urged to immediately install the patch released by Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-059.asp"

"The most serious of the three Windows XP vulnerabilities is the remotely exploitable buffer overflow. It is possible for an attacker to write custom exploit code that will allow them to execute commands with SYSTEM level access, the highest level of access within Windows XP."

"The other two vulnerabilities are types of denial of service attacks. The first is a fairly straightforward denial of service attack, which allows an attacker to remotely crash any Windows XP system. The crash will require Windows XP users to physically power down their machines and start them up again before the system will function. The second denial of service attack is a distributed denial of service attack. This vulnerability allows attackers to remotely command many Windows XP systems at once in an effort to make them flood/attack a single host."

B02K - (Back ORifice) -

Back Orifice (often shortened to BO) is a controversial computer program designed for remote system administration. It enables a user to control a computer running the Microsoft Windows operating system from a remote location.[1] The name is a word play on Microsoft BackOffice Server software.

Back Orifice was designed with a client-server architecture. A small and unobtrusive server program is installed on one machine, which is remotely manipulated by a client program with a graphical user interface on another computer system. The two components communicate with one another using the TCP and/or UDP network protocols. In a reference to the Leet phenomenon, this program commonly runs on port 31337.
The program debuted at DEF CON 6 on August 1, 1998. It was the brainchild of Sir Dystic, a member of the U.S. hacker organization CULT OF THE DEAD COW. According to the group, its purpose was to demonstrate the lack of security in Microsoft's operating system Windows 98.

Although Back Orifice has legitimate purposes, such as remote administration, there are other factors that make it suited for less benign business. The server can hide itself from cursory looks by users of the system. As the server can be installed without user interaction, it can be distributed as payload of a Trojan horse.
For those and other reasons, the antivirus industry immediately categorized the tool as malware and appended Back Orifice to their quarantine lists. Despite this fact, it was widely used by script kiddies because of its simple GUI and ease of installation.
A sequel application, Back Orifice 2000 was released in 1999.

Bonk Attacks (Bonkbonkbonk)

The Bonk attack is a variation of the now infamous Teardrop attack, and works much like the Boink attack, although it does not allow UDP port ranges. The Bonk attack manipulates a field in TCP/IP packets, called a fragment offset. This field tells a computer how to reconstruct a packet that was broken up (fragmented), because it was too big to transmit in a whole piece. By manipulating this number, the Bonk attack causes the target machine to reassemble a packet that is much too big to be reassembled. This causes the target computer to crash. A simple reboot is usually sufficient to recover from this attack. It is possible that unsaved data in applications open at the time of attack will be lost.

DDoS attacks - (Distributed Denial of Service Attacks) - (CERT)
Teardrop -Any remote user can crash a vulnerable machine.
Land -Any remote user that can send spoofed packets to a host can crash or "hang" that host.

The Real Offical Disney website is at http://www.disney.go.com

How many ways can you think of that this is using someone else's trademark or copyright to get traffic.. heaven forbid Tynt.com or tynted.com actually starts serving ads... then it's a slma dunk.. right now, they can say it is a social "markup" tool.. but if you land on this website.. it doesn't look any different. Are the clicks and cookies still pushed to the original web server or does Tynt also steal that data, where is the privacy statement? Where is the edict that says that tynt can track clicks on my website without my permission?

Google's First Steps

"On a day in late August, 1998, two Stanford Phd. students managed to make $100,000 with a few mouse clicks by showing their new search technology to Sun Microsystems co-founder Andy von Bechtolsheim. The seasoned Silicon Valley executive was so taken with what he saw that he dashed to his Porsche, pulled his check book from the glove compartment and wrote check number 4642 in the name of a company that did not yet exist: Google, Inc."

Search Without SERPs: The Future of SEO? | User Effect

"Yesterday was Google's 10th anniversary, and I thought it would be a good time to write about something I've been thinking about a lot lately: the humble SERP. Here's What Google Wants in an Ad Shop

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- When Google launched an in-house agency a year ago, poaching former Ogilvy & Mather bigwig Andy Berndt to lead it, some in the ad business saw it as an affront -- a sign of Google's "do-it-ourselves" mentality about, well, everything. Turns out the search engine isn't above asking for a little help from Adland.
